A young boy struck by a car that mounted the kerb in a horror Edinburgh crash has sadly died.

A witness, speaking on condition of anonymity, m'a dit: “There were two injured parties, one was a child who looked to be around three years old.

“I just have his or her little wellies stuck in my head which had fallen off.

“The child appeared to be partially under the car and appeared to be breathing when I was there.

“A nurse and a pharmacist from a local pharmacy got to the accident before the ambulance arrived

A shopkeeper has revealed the horror moment she heard a ‘bang’ before a mum and child were injured in an Edinburgh crash.

Mother-of-two Samina Rafiq was serving a customer in Scotcleen dry cleaners a few doors up from the crash scene before chaos erupted.

She was left terrified as people flocked to the ‘shocking incident’ at around 2.30pm this afternoon on Morningside Road.

Taking to Twitter, they said: “Our thoughts are with the injured parties involved in the RTC on Morningside Road today.

“News has recently come in that a woman and child were both hit due to a car mounting the pavement. Please still avoid the area at all costs.”

They had been standing outside a charity shop on Morningside Road when a car ploughed into them at around 2.30pm.

The city centre area has now been blocked off as police launch an investigation into the smash.

Green councillor for Morningside Melanie Main took to Twitter following the crash, saying: “Obviously we still have to get full details but from what I know this sounds horrendous. I truly hope that it turns out not to be as serious as it sounds. My thoughts and hopes are with the family affected.”

Police have confirmed a woman and a young child have been taken to hospital following the crash.

A statement read: “Around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 30 juin, 2020, police received a report of a road traffic crash involving a car and two pedestrians outside St Columba’s Hospice charity shop in Morningside Road, Edinburgh.“A woman and young child have been taken to hospital by ambulance. “Traffic diversions are in place.“Police enquiries are ongoing.”

Two pedestrians are believed to have been hit by the vehicle after it mounted the kerb in the Morningside area of the capital.

A statement from Police Scotland read: ”Around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 30 juin, 2020, police received a report of a road traffic crash involving a car and two pedestrians in Morningside Road, Edinburgh.

According to a witness of the incident a male was stuck under the red car involved in the crash.

He wrote: “I was just there. Poor lad was stuck under the car. I hope he is ok. He was breathing when I left.

Lothian Buses said services are being diverted via Balcarres Street, Craighouse Gardens, Grey Loan and Colinton Road until further notice.

In a Twitter post the group said traffic was bad in the area as emergency crews deal with the car that crashed into a shop.

The post read: “FYIMorningside road closed due to bad car accident; emergency services in attendance and traffic backed all the way updiversion in place too. Avoid at all costs!"

Police Scotland said: ”Around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 30 juin, 2020, police received a report of a road traffic crash involving a car and two pedestrians in Morningside Road, Edinburgh.

People are being asked to avoid Morningside Road in Edinburgh today after a car mount the pavement and ploughed into a shop window.

Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are all in attendance.
