Netflix fans will know Hana Kimura from the popular series, Terrace House, and the star was found dead aged 22.
The cause of death has not yet been officially announced, but fans were concerned about her following a recent social media post.
Her death was first announced by her wrestling organisation, Stardom Wrestling, earlier on Saturday, May 23.
They said: “We are very sorry to report that our Hana Kimura has passed away. Please be respectful and allow some time for things to process, and keep your thoughts and prayers with her family and friends. We appreciate your support during this difficult time.”
She was starring in the fifth season of Terrace House, which follows the relationships between men and women after they move in together.
Wrestling Travel paid tribute to the young star on Twitter, saying: “Hana Kimura was one of the first women to wrestle on a Wrestle Kingdom show, working in front of a packed Tokyo Dome this January.
“A whole, history-making career was ahead of her. 22-years-old. Heartbreaking doesn’t even begin to cover it #RIPHanaKimura.”
Wrestlers and fans around the world have paid tribute to the young star, calling her an up and coming professional.
Kimura had competed in Madison Square Garden and Tokyo Dome events, and her fights would often sell out.
One fan said on Twitter: “Distraught. I don’t even know what to say or feel. Numb. I can’t express it. RIP Hana Kimura.
“Such a wonderful human being. The gaijin helper. All the potential. A beautiful soul. Kind. I just can’t even put into f****** words how upsetting this is. I hope you found peace.”
Friends posted pictures of the star in her wrestling attire with emotional messages, saying she will be sorely missed.
One friend said: “I will always love and miss you, my friend. You are my little sister. The Swanns send our love and condolences to Hana Kimura, her family, and loved ones. I will never forget you. So much I want to say… my heart is broken.”
The wrestler and Netflix star had more than 59,000 followers on her Twitter account, and she was admired by fans across the world.
In August 2016, Kimura wrestled against her mother Kyoko Kimura in a match, and a month later she won her first title, the JWP Junior Championship, by defeating Yako Fujigasaki in a tournament final.

She had a short acting career which spanned from 2017 until she died, having featured on Tokyo Talk Show, Terrace House Tokyo, and Lost Decade.
One of her last big wrestling matches was in January 2020, when she fought alongside Giulia at the Wrestle Kingdom 14.
She and her wrestling partner took on Mayu Iwatani and Arisa Hoshiki at the New Japan Pro-Wrestling match in Tokyo Dome.
The star had followed the same dream as her mother and fans have sent their condolences to her mum on Twitter.
One fan said: “All of our love to Kyoko Kimura and the other members of Tokyo cyber squad and the rest of the Stardom roster and staff right now.”
She joined Stardom in March 2019 and was named leader of the faction ‘Tokyo Cyber Squad’ in April.
Another fan said on Twitter: ” Gone too soon. I never got to meet Hana but I’ve heard nothing but good things about her.
“In the ring she was talented, had a bright future and it hurts so much because any time someone asked who my top female wrestler is: Hana Kimura is at the top of my list.”
