According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Leeds United loanee defender Ben White this summer – with Arsenal, Man United, Man City and Leicester City also interested in a potential swoop.
White, who has excelled under Marcelo Bielsa since arriving on a temporary spell from Brighton at the beginning of the campaign, making 39 Championship starts for the Whites as they eye Premier League promotion, is currently attracting interest from the newly elected league champions ahead of our impending title defence.
The Englishman, who has recently been touted as the potentially perfect understudy to Reds centre-back Virgil van Dijk, won’t come cheaply according to Football Insider – with Brighton allegedly slapping a £35 million price tag on his services.
Brighton’s biggest sale is currently Leonardo Ulloa to Leicester, who left for around £8 million, but the Seagulls will reportedly demand more than quadruple that amount for White – but is he worth the fee?
The 22-year-old has recorded an impressive campaign in the Championship this season, so much so that a host of big names are reportedly monitoring his situation – and it’s not hard to see why judging by his WhoScored stats.
As well as averaging an impressive 85.1% pass success rate, he has also made more interceptions than any Liverpool player whilst turning heads in England’s second tier.
Described as a defender who ‘ticks every box‘, pundit Noel Whelan has even tipped the ‘brilliant‘ centre-half to reach the heights of Man United’s Harry Maguire.
Even though his quality is indeed evident, it is still debatable whether Michael Edwards and co think he is worth the reported £35m asking price.
