There are few things in this world funnier than watching an otherwise extremely scary individual being forced to do something mundane This is the exact form of comedy the new animated series is based on Netflix’s slice of life, The Way of the Househusband, and it’s awfully funny every time

The Way of the Househusband, based on Kousuke Oono’s manga series and starring Kenjiro Tsuda (who also voiced the main character in promotional videos for the manga), talks about Tatsu, unkune the immortal dragon, a terrifyingly reputable former yakuza boss who chose to give up his life of crime and become a stay-at-home husband for his career-oriented wife Miku But his skills with various weapons, quick thinking and intimidating demeanor succeed all to be useful even in domestic life Tatsu, tall with tattoos on his back and scars on his face, has a creepy figure, but cares more about carefully preparing his wife’s bento lunches and getting bargains at the supermarket than his former gang mates. who continue to harass him to return to the fold In addition, he wears a small apron

The episodes are short and lightning fast, bundling around five or six mini-stories into one episode, usually focused on Tatsu going to an aerobics class and scaring everyone with his smile. smirk, or uses his skills with the blade to test a salesman’s kitchen knives In the first episode, he fights some old rivals with a pair of fuzzy mittens he got at a sale, won a class kitchen, then cooks a nice birthday party for his wife Each episode also includes an interlude with Gin, Tatsu’s cat and Miku, who walks around every day and has trouble with the animals in the neighborhood

The Netflix anime, directed by Chiaki Kon and produced by animation studio JCStaff (Food Wars !, the similar tonic The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, One-Punch Man), quite faithfully adapts the manga’s source material. (as the 2020 live-action adaptation does), occasionally remaking scenes, like the one in which Tatsu gets a new apron printed with characters from his wife’s favorite anime, almost frame by frame It’s windy, c is fun and it will make you wish you had a former gangster alive to cook all your meals for you
