SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau made the turn on Day 1 at Augusta National in one-over-par As former Masters Champion Mike Weir ends his round at six on the normal and a score of 78

Finau started his round with a birdie on the second hole after a brilliant second shot on the par 5 that gave him a 15-foot putt for the eagle However, Finau immediately doubled the third hole a par 4 and called with one bogey in four He quickly found himself at two on par despite the positive start

Fortunately, a birdie in seven gave Finau the boost they needed as they approached the turn

Finau was hitting his driver and irons well Finding plenty of fairways and greens in the settlement, however, his putting let him down on several occasions as he was missing 10ft putts which should be drilled

Hopefully Finau will be able to find the required form with his putter to give him a better chance of making another Masters race

Weir was not so lucky, the 2003 Masters champion landed two double bogeys, four bogeys and just two birdies on his way to a score of 78 in the final He ends up at the bottom of the ranking

Weir made two big pars on 17 and 18, having been in positions that would suggest a bogey was waiting, which will hopefully give him some momentum going into Friday’s round.

Justin Rose leads the field at four under par on 13 holes He’s solo
