COLCHESTER’s Debenhams store will reopen for a final closing sale before closing for good, the firm has confirmed

The Culver Street West store in Debenhams will sell its remaining stock from Monday

Earlier this year, the brand was bought by online fashion retailer Boohoo for £ 55million, but it is not ready to absorb its stores or its workforce.

This means that the remaining 118 stores of the historic brand will close permanently as part of a structured liquidation of the business.

Across the UK, as many as 12,000 employees are expected to lose their jobs due to the move

A number of stores across the UK, including in Colchester, will reopen from Monday to sell the remaining stock

Sale will include limited deals with up to 70% off fashion and home products

Stores reopen as part of Debenhams final inventory clearance process and will continue to trade for a “limited number of weeks” until inventory in stores is fully cleared.

Debenhams stores in Chelmsford, Southend and Lakeside will also reopen to close sales from Monday

Debenhams claims to have been secured by Covid, with appropriate hygiene and social distancing measures in place

A spokesperson for Debenhams said: ‘This is the last chance for customers from England and Wales to visit their local Debenhams before unfortunately our stores close for good.

“We will reopen with a fantastic range of offers and discounts on all of our customers’ favorite brands and products.

“Stocks are limited and should sell out quickly Customers should therefore get to the nearest store quickly to avoid disappointment.

“We are very grateful for the efforts of our staff who have worked so hard under the most difficult circumstances to maintain business activity.”
