A company statement from businessman Sir Richard Sutton Limited said staff were “deeply saddened and devastated by the sudden death”

“Sir Richard was a caring, generous and warm family man who genuinely regarded those who worked for him as part of his extended family”

He added that he was “passionately devoted to both his company and his employees, setting the highest standards for quality in the hospitality, agriculture and real estate interests of the group”

Describing him as an “incredible individual”, the firm said the loss of Sir Richard “will be felt by everyone in the company”

Tory North Dorset MP Simon Hoare, who was a friend of Sir Richard’s, said he had received a briefing from Dorset Police and called the death “deeply gruesome”

“I knew him, strangely enough I knew him before I was an MP, because my company worked a lot for his field many years ago,” he said.

“He was a lovely man, he had a great sense of humor, he was politically astute and kind

“If you wanted to conjure up the image of a country gentleman, it was him

The MP added that the incident was rare in his constituency and that there was “no cause or reason to be alarmed” based on the police briefing
