Anglo-German teenager Jamal Musiala made Bayern Munich history as the club’s youngest scorer in the UEFA Champions League with his strike against Lazio at the age of 17 and 363 days

Making their second start to the competition, Musiala opened their account with an elegant finish for the second of Bayern’s three first-half goals in the first leg of their eighth game in Rome

The 17-year-old midfielder replaces former defender Samuel Kuffour in the club’s all-time ranking The Ghanaian was 18, one month and 30 days old when he set the previous record with his effort against the Spartak Moscow in the 1994 European Cup

Roque Santa Cruz held the record for Bayern’s youngest goalscorer during the Champions League era (18 years, two months and 10 days), with contemporaries Kingsley Coman, Thomas Müller and David Alaba completing the top six

He became the youngest debutant of the record champions on the penultimate day of the 2019/20 season, after making waves with the club’s youth teams

The former Chelsea academy starlet has since made 16 more Bundesliga appearances during the current campaign, scoring three goals

The German-born youth, who spent more than half of his childhood in England, represented both countries at youth level

He won the Under-21 selection for the Three Lions in November 2020, but is expected to receive an invitation from Joachim Löw to play for the German seniors during the international break in March

FIFA rules state that players under the age of 21 can change national teams provided they have not played in more than three matches for the nation they have represented for the first time at senior level, including friendlies

The only exceptions to the rule are if they have participated in a FIFA World Cup final or a confederation final such as the UEFA Euros
