Still friends: James was also asked about his ex Gemma during the interview and confirmed that they are not officially back together (pictured 2019)

‘It’s not like I put on weight in lockdown and do anything drastic to get rid of it, it’s something that I had this underlying issue in terms of weight and eating disorder since I was a teenager ‘

Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery involves creating a small pocket in the stomach that restricts food intake and reduces nutrient absorption

The pouch also prevents food from coming into contact with the upper or lower intestine, thus preventing absorption

The surgeons then staple the upper part of the stomach to separate it from the bottom, creating a pocket

A small section of the small intestine is then attached to the pouch, allowing food to bypass the lower stomach

Sleeve gastrectomy staples part of the stomach and removes excess – effectively turning it from a pocket to a sleeve

However, restrictions on how much food patients can eat means patients will still need to take supplements

The results are excellent, reaching up to 70% excess weight loss, just below the standard set by gastric bypass

In addition to weight loss, sleeve gastrectomy has also been shown to lead to remission of diabetes
