Harambee Stars prospect Tyler Onyango made his debut as Everton beat Sheffield 3-0 on Wednesday and booked a spot in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday

Onyango replaced Andre Gomes in the 85th minute as he made his full debut for the senior Everton team

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Yerry Mina scored all three goals for the Toffees to advance at the expense of the struggling Championship team

The win saw the Merseyside club reach the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since doing so in the 2015/16 season They have also progressed 12 of their last 13 FA Cup matches against teams from lower leagues

Coach Carlo Ancelloti also made his debut for 16-year-old Thierry Small with five minutes remaining and he became Everton’s youngest player

The progress delighted Everton assistant Duncan Ferguson, who said his team deserved the win because they were dominant

“I’m absolutely thrilled – we played really well and took the risk We were dominant,” Ferguson said, as quoted by BBC Sport

“We hit the bar, had a goal disallowed and in the second half we pushed. It was a good overall performance

“We dominated all along, we were the best team from the start. We’re here to win it”

Although he didn’t mention Onyango, Ferguson said Small was awesome and cool: “Brilliant, great for him I’m made for him, really thrilled,” he added.

“He was cool and we’re thrilled for him 16, [it’s] amazing and I hope [this appearance] will be the first in a long series”

Neil Thompson of Sheffield Wednesday picked up some positives from the game despite failing to score just one goal

“We did well in the first half and were good on the clock. We used the ball well, but we had to penetrate more,” said Thompson

“They scored two goals from set pieces which is disappointing but we realized it for ourselves. It gave us a chance to confront our minds with some of the best in the country

“People are still missing and we have a duty to make sure everyone is right”
