It’s a stressful time for many, but we hope summer vacation will be allowed

The ‘Covid roadmap’ contained crucial details on when the government will consider removing current travel restrictions and when it plans to review it

He confirmed that non-essential international travel is banned until May 17 – the earliest date – when a review will take place

He said he “will consider resuming international travel, which is vital for many businesses that have been hit hardest, including retail, hospitality, tourism and aviation”

In reality, his announcement can be taken in two ways; there has been yet another delay and cancellations of hundreds of flights and vacations through May 17th or government optimism and hope to allow summer vacation

The news could also be taken in two ways for travel agencies and airlines which saw a mixed reaction to the announcement

Many, including easyJet, have seen a massive increase in demand for summer vacations, but others like TUI have had to cancel their vacations until May 17

Flight bookings from the UK have jumped 337% and easyJet holiday bookings by 630% since the UK government’s announcement with leisure trips to Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro and Crete among the main destinations and August is the most popular time to travel

Johan Lundgren, CEO of easyJet, said he welcomed the news and looked forward to working with the government and its task force

He said: “We have consistently seen that there is pent-up demand for travel and this surge in bookings shows that this government signal that it plans to reopen travel is what UK consumers have been expecting

“The Prime Minister’s speech gave a much needed boost of confidence to so many of our UK customers with flight demand up 337% and holidays up 630% already from last week and seaside destinations proved to be the most popular for this summer

“Our promise of protection means customers can book with confidence knowing that if they can’t travel or their plans change, their flights or vacations can too”

Commenting on the British Prime Minister’s address to the nation, he added: “We welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement, which sets out the government’s intention for a safe and sustainable return to international travel as soon as possible

“We look forward to working with the government and its task force to be able to safely and gradually lift the restrictions and send people back to the skies

Jet2 has yet to respond to the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday, but it will be another kick in the teeth given the questioning of when international vacations will be allowed

Due to continued uncertainty and travel restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the company recently extended the suspension of flights and vacations until April 14, 2021 inclusive

Now it looks like the airline is going to have to extend it once again, which means vacations and flights will be canceled

Customers affected by program changes will have their reservations automatically canceled with a full refund

However, about a week ago, Jet2 confirmed that demand was so high that it led the company to add new flights to a number of Greek destinations this year.

There have been over 74 new flights added to destinations in Greece for 2021 including Zakynthos, Rhodes, Crete and Kefalonia

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2com and Jet2holidays said: “There is always a huge pent-up demand from UK holidaymakers, who want nothing more than to get away from the sun and enjoy their vacation well. deserved

“As always, we listen to what customers want and respond accordingly, so that we can give them the vacation choices they want Extending the summer season to Greece means we’re doing just that; giving customers more possibilities to get away from it all and enjoy a well-deserved vacation

“With the assurance that customers get from our award-winning flights and ATOL protected vacation packages, we will continue to meet demand so that when the journey restarts we can take guests from our rainy islands to their favorite vacation hot spots “

The Jet2 summer sale is now underway with a number of discounted flights available for summer 2021 and 2022

A number of destinations are offered by the airline including Naples from £ 37, Ibiza from £ 41 and Alicante from £ 42

Ryanair has been one of many companies affected by travel restrictions and the coronavirus It still flies on a reduced schedule, however

Ryanair Holdings plc released January traffic statistics earlier this month which showed how much money these airlines are losing

In January 2020, Ryanair Group had 108 million passengers flying with them But barely a year later, in 2021, the numbers were down 88% to 13 million

The rolling year for 2020 was 1,529 million, but in 2021 it’s 72% less so far

It is expected to decline further with the ban on non-essential international travel until mid-May

To help customers, the airline has waived your vacation modification fee for all new bookings made before March 31, 2021 This is for travel before October 31, 2021
