Daniil Medvedev entered the top three for the first time in Monday’s ATP rankings, while fellow Russian Aslan Karatsev climbed 72 places after his shock race to the semi-finals of the Australian Open

Medvedev finished runner-up in a Grand Slam for the second time as he was swept away by Sunday’s top-ranked Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s final in Melbourne, with the Serbian winning his 18th major title

Former US Open finalist Medvedev switched positions with Dominic Thiem, who slipped to fourth after being demolished by Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in the last 16 games

Bulgarian Dimitrov returned to the top 20, but the biggest hit was Karatsev, a qualifier who became the first Open-era man to reach a major’s semi-finals in a debut main draw

Karatsev, 27, rose from 114th to 42nd after knocking out three seeds before his dream run was finished by Djokovic in the last four

The victory bolstered Djokovic’s status as world number one, ensuring he will celebrate his 311th week there from March 8, surpassing Roger Federer’s record of 310
