South Australian authorities have issued emergency warning for an uncontrolled bushfire in the Adelaide Hills, while a fire on the Fleurieu Peninsula has been decommissioned

The Adelaide Hills fire burns uncontrollably in a northeast direction towards Scott Creek Conservation Park near Cherry Gardens as mercury hits 40 degrees Celsius across most of the state

The fire is currently burning near Hicks Hill Road, Orchard Road, Lewis Street and Prith Road

“The biggest fire is in Cherry Gardens – it’s a big fire,” said Yvette Dowling, CFS Deputy State Commander

She said the wind was about to change direction and the fire would head towards Kangarilla, Scott Creek, Upper Sturt, Longwood, Mount Bold, Mylor and Heathfield

A message of watch and action has been issued for the townships of Meadows, Echunga and Macclesfield

Ms Dowling said the change in the wind will make the bushfire worse as the fire side will become the head

But she said the change in the wind would cause the humidity to increase, which would end up “making it easier to control”

Adelaide’s temperature reached 427 degrees Celsius just after noon and stayed within 30 seconds until early evening

Much of the rest of the state has also been suffocated, with Port Augusta peaking at 453 degrees Celsius

A second emergency warning had just been issued for an uncontrolled bushfire in Hunts Road, Finniss, on the Fleurieu Peninsula – about 50 km south of Cherry Gardens – but which has since been downgraded to a message. advice

CFS also issued a watch and action message regarding a bushfire in Tilley Swamp, near Kingston SE in the southeastern state, which burned approximately 500 hectares
