Seven West Media has signed a letter of intent to deliver current content to Facebook, the media company said in a statement today

The deal is subject to the signing of a long-lasting deal between the two companies, which Seven West Media has said it expects to complete within the next 60 days

The company said it would provide more details “after the deal is executed” in the statement

The move comes after Facebook last week barred Australian users from sharing or posting news links in response to proposed news media trading code that would force tech companies to pay media for the content

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg had earlier said he hoped media companies would ‘sit down at the table’ with Facebook and sign deals
